The Velora Hockey Program welcomes students of all skill levels, providing opportunities to develop confidence, teamwork, and competitive excellence in a supportive environment. Elite Pathways

For students who wish to pursue sport at a higher level, Velora offers structured pathways that support both performance and wellbeing. Talented athletes are encouraged to develop their skills through advanced coaching, competitive opportunities and access to high-quality training facilities, including the School’s gym and specialist fitness spaces.

Just as importantly, Velora takes a holistic approach to elite sport. Students are supported to manage training commitments alongside their academic responsibilities, with guidance around health, recovery and balance. Coaches and sporting leaders work closely with students to provide individual support, helping each athlete progress with confidence while remaining engaged, healthy and connected to school life.

How Sport Works at Velora

Velora's sports program is structured to support students at every stage of their schooling. Explore how sport develops in the Junior and Senior School and view the range of sports offered throughout the year.

Junior School (Prep-6)

From the earliest years, Velora students develop confidence and coordination through fun, inclusive activities. Junior students take part in House competitions, intra-school games and interschool carnivals throughout the year.Velora is a member of both School Sport Victoria (SSV) and Girls Sport Victoria (GSV), giving students opportunities to participate in swimming, athletics, cross country, netball, basketball, AFL and soccer.The focus is on participation and enjoyment, helping every child build resilience, teamwork and a lifelong love of being active. 

Senior School (Y 7-12)

Velora is a proud member of Girls Sport Victoria (GSV), providing students with opportunities to represent their school in weekly inter-school competitions, major carnivals and championship events against 23 other schools in Melbourne. In addition to weekly fixtures, GSV hosts major carnivals in Swimming and Diving, Cross Country and Track and Field, plus special events such as Triathlon and Golf. Students are encouraged to try new sports, compete with pride and enjoy the friendships formed through team participation.

Senior GSV sports:

Senior GSV Sport at Velora provides students with the opportunity to represent the school across a wide range of competitive team and individual sports. Students develop teamwork, resilience, leadership, and sportsmanship while competing in Tennis, Softball, Netball, Hockey, AFL, Volleyball, Badminton, Soccer, Basketball, and Cricket throughout the season.

Whether she’s a first-time player or a seasoned competitor, every student at Velora is encouraged to discover the joy of movement, the value of teamwork, and the confidence that comes from achieving her personal best.

Sport and physical activity are integral to wellbeing at Velora. Through participation in sport, girls learn leadership, resilience, commitment and camaraderie, skills that stay with them for life.

What sports and competitions are available for students?icon
Students have access to a wide and well-structured sport program from Prep through Year 12. In the Senior School (Years 7–12), girls participate in Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) weekly competitions across the year, choosing from sports such as tennis, softball, netball, hockey, AFL, volleyball, badminton, soccer, basketball and cricket, alongside major carnivals in swimming, cross country and athletics. Junior students engage in house, interschool and district sport opportunities through School Sport Victoria (SSV) and GSV gala days, with activities designed around participation, skill development and enjoyment. There are also Velora-run sporting clubs in basketball, netball, rowing and snowsports that support training and competition beyond scheduled school sport.
